The post above happened to catch my eyes while I was casually scrolling down the University’s CSR webpage.

Why not give a try? I thought. One main reason being my dissertation was related to Corporate Social Responsibility. Never did I know that this very opportunity was going to bring out a different me. I would say, being part of Green Impact has helped me achieve more than just the 5 pointers mentioned.

As the day started off with the training, I raised an emphatic question to myself, “It’s easy to ask people to be sustainable, but is it really practical? Especially when you have millions of other much important things to do”. I had a clear cut answer to all this when we started the audit work. The fact that, even a tiny effort by people can make a tremendous change caught my attention. The enthusiasm and passion with which each department at our University worked to be sustainable was really impressive.

This made me realise that if people who are this busy in life can do so much to protect our environment, then I have no excuses to keep avoiding my responsibilities. It made me aware of very useful and easy things that I can do in my everyday life to make the earth a better place to live in.

The Grounds Manager at Chiswick Sports Ground was so proud to talk to my fellow auditor and myself about how beautifully and sustainably they manage and maintain that breath-taking piece of land. He told us “when you do something, do it good.” Those words have really influenced me. Today when I do something, I try to do it in the most sustainable manner and I am really proud of this new me.

I’m glad I was given the opportunity to be part of the green impact.
